Bonnye Claire Greene's Obituary
Bonnye Claire Greene passed away on September 28, 2023, in Gainesville, FL. She was born in Vienna, GA on April 29, 1933, to Claude B. and Bessie D. Braswell Greene.
Bonnye was preceded in death by her Parents and two brothers, Edgar and Claude Greene, Jr.
Bonnye moved to Gainesville in 1958 where she first worked as a medical technologist at Alachua General Hospital, in 1962 she accepted a technical medical research position at the University of Florida, and later in 1967 a position at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Gainesville. In 1982 Bonnye accepted a chief medical technologist position to develop a Quality Control Program for Dr.’s Osterhout and Jenkins group practice in Inverness, FL. In 1985 Bonnye returned to the Veterans Administration Hospital in Gainesville until her retirement in 1995. She loved participating in medical research and sharing in the publications of results.
Bonnye enjoyed playing sports and watching sports, boating and fishing. She loved nature, RVing, music and reading.
She participated on the board to initiate the development of the Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greater Gainesville (now Family Promise) and to help fund the startup by writing and receiving a grant from the Unitarian Universalist Social Responsibility Funding Program in 1998.
She enjoyed volunteering in the Prairie View after school program and participating in initiating funding of Scholarships for low-income children through grants from the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee’s Promise the Children seed grant program. She was a member of the United Church of Gainesville.
Bonnye was awarded volunteer of the year at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Gainesville in 2012.
Most of all, Bonnye loved her family and friends and the religious organizations she actively volunteered with for many years.
A Celebration of Bonnye’s Life will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 12 noon in the Chapel at Haven Hospice 4200 N.W. 90th Blvd. Gainesville, FL. with Rev. Bromleigh McClenegham.and Chaplain Allison Blay.
