Beulah Belle Denney McLane-Carter's Obituary
Beulah Belle Denney McLane-Carter, age 92, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2023. She was born in Willailla, Rockcastle County, Kentucky, on February 18, 1931, to Sallie Mae Owens Denney and William Irvin Denney. She had one sister, Martha, and three brothers, Craig, William (Jr.) and Wayne. At the age of 14, Beulah moved to Mt. Vernon, Kentucky, to attend high school. Following graduation, Beulah moved to Louisville, Kentucky, to attend cosmetology school although her dream was to become a medical missionary as a nurse. Following the completion of cosmetology school, Beulah opened a Beauty Shoppe in Baptist Hospital rendering service to patients; she felt this would help realize her dream of medical service by helping patients. She met Lloyd (L.T.) McLane, married in 1951 and moved to Hernando, Mississippi to move forward with a life of service to their Country while in the United States Navy. They served in several locations, the favorites being Florida and Hawaii. In 1959, she had her son, L. Timothy McLane. In 1972, Beulah and Timothy moved back to Jacksonville from Atlanta to be near her niece (who she referred to as her “daughter” or Sis), Myrnette Moore Lentz. Beulah loved to cook and bake so when she remarried in 1987 to Floyd Carter, a huge Gator fan, she would have the most amazing tailgate parties outside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, while visiting with great friends and her beloved family.
Beulah loved to serve and ultimately found her long term career in hospital administration. She began her hospital career as an employee with Kaiser Medical in Hawaii, became the Director of Beverly Hill Nursing Center in Atlanta, then moved to Baptist Hospital in Jacksonville. Eventually, she became the Director of Admitting at Methodist Hospital, then with Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. Following her retirement in 1994, she became the President of the Auxiliary of Orange Park Medical Center. She remained President of the Auxiliary for six years and truly enjoyed that position with the Auxiliary.
Following her husband’s death in 2012, she relocated to Gainesville to be near her “Lentz Family”. She adored family get togethers, her Bible study groups, her church friends from North Central Baptist Church, as well as her friends from Bible study at First Presbyterian Church and the Meadowbrook Community.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father, her sister and three brothers, and her husband of 25 years, Floyd Carter. Beulah is survived by her son, L. Timothy McLane, his wife Susan and their children, Timothy McLane, James McLane, Gavin Davis and Jenna Waters; her “daughter”, Myrnette (Missy) Lentz, her husband Robert (Bob) Lentz, their three children, Rob Lentz, Alana Lentz-Pirkle (Kevin), Ashley Black (Brian); and eight great-grandchildren, Lacy and Alexis Pirkle; Cameron, Eian and Juliana Black; and Trey, Lucas and Hayes Lentz.
A Memorial Service for Beulah will be held at Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Westarea 823 N.W. 143rd St. Newberry, FL. on Friday, November 3, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Lunch reception following the service at the Meadowbrook Clubhouse located at 3200 N.W. 98th Street in Gainesville.
Her family ask that if you are so moved, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to North Central Baptist Church, Youth Missions, 8001 N.W. 23rd Avenue, Gainesville, Florida, or Quest Church in memory of Beulah McLane-Carter, 5001 Gateway Boulevard, Grovetown, GA 30813.
