Betty Jane Sauls' Obituary
Betty Jane Sauls, age 75 of Gainesville, FL passed away Sunday, April 30, 2017. She was born June 11, 1941 in Marianna, FL to Sam A. and Josie M. Hinson Clark.
Betty moved to Gainesville with her family in 1954. She graduated from Gainesville High School in 1959. Her first job as a very young person was at Gresham’s Drug Store, she then worked at Florida Theater and Duval Jewelry. Betty then began her 42-year career at Gainesville Golf and Country Club. She began as a secretary, moved into bookkeeping, then became Assistant Club Manager and for the final 18 plus years she worked as General Manager. Betty was a Gator fan, enjoyed travel, cruises, bingo, bunko, she loved reading as well as spending time with her friends and family. Betty never met a stranger, always greeting people with her friendly smile. She appreciated and stayed connected with all of her friends with whom she cherished. Above all else, her greatest joy in life was her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who were the light of her life.
Betty was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Darryl Jones and her siblings, Juanita Windham, Margaret Gargis, Sara Taylor and Fred Clark.
She is survived by her children, James Y. (Joy) Sauls of Ohio and Kelly S. Jones of Gainesville; three grandchildren, Rachel (Isaac) Brunk, Darren (Heidi) Jones and Jason Sauls; three great grandchildren, Lucy, Jack and Calvin and one on the way, Victoria; brothers, David (Sue) Clark of Virginia and Robert "Sonny" Clark of Gainesville and many nieces and nephews. For many years Betty developed a very special bond with her niece, Angie Wiggins and nephew, Terry Bell. Betty is also survived by Rambo her beloved dog.
The family would also like to thank her brother, Sonny Clark for being by her side until the end.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME WESTAREA, 823 NW 143rd Street with Rev. Robbie Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday one hour prior to the service beginning at 5:30 p.m. In Betty’s memory please make a donation to the charity of your choice which benefits children.
