Betty Jean Martin's Obituary
Betty Jean Martin, Age 92, of Gainesville, FL, passed away on December 7, 2024 at The Plaza Health and Rehab center following a lengthy battle with dementia.
Betty Jean, as she was known by, was born the daughter of Perry Mock and Winnie Mock (Spears) on November 13, 1932 in Bell, FL,
Betty retired from the Alachua County Health Department in January 1995 and continued to work part-time at Santa Fe College as secretary until she was ready to officially retire at age 83!
Betty was a giving person, generous with anything she had. She was a great cook and would make sure there was more than enough for her family and 20 others if they wanted to come too. She loved crafts, especially crocheting, cross-stitch and making flower arrangements. One of her most favorite things was to crochet blankets for all the newborn babies.
Betty was a long-time member of The Oaks Church in Gainesville, FL. She loved her church and spoke highly of her pastor, Danny Austin and of her close friend, Elsie Wilson.
Remaining to cherish Betty’s memory are her children, Thomas Michael Martin (Theresa) of Newberry, FL and Donna Jean Martin of Gainesville, FL; grandchildren, Rebecca Berry (John), Christopher Martin (Misty) and Ryan Moore (Eva); 6 great-grandchildren, her brother, Morgan Earl Mock; step-sister, Lyndol Legrand; 3 nieces and 6 nephews,
Preceding Betty in death are her oldest daughter, Sherry Ann Martin and her parents.
Services will be held on Monday, December 16, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Williams Thomas Westarea Chapel, 823 NW 143rd St., Newberry, FL with pastor Danny Austin officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 12:00 pm, Interment will be in Mt Pleasant Baptist Church cemetery, 14105 NW 298th St, High Springs, FL immediately following the service.
