Betty Jane Kilgore's Obituary
Betty Jane Kilgore, 93, of Gainesville, Florida, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2021. Betty was born in St. Petersburg, Florida on November 14, 1927, to Lottie Jane (Deal) and Byron Lee Turner. She graduated from St. Pete High School in 1945 and immediately entered the last class of the United States Cadet Nurse Corp. She received her Registered Nurse degree from Mound Park Hospital School of Nursing in 1949.
During her nursing career she worked first with the Pinellas County Visiting Nurses Association. Later she became a nursing supervisor with the Pinellas County Health Department where she remained for 31 years. She retired in 1987 as acting director of the Pinellas County Public Health Nurses.
She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, William Crews Kilgore. Soon after his death she moved to Gainesville to be closer to family. She lived in The Village for 10 years. She is survived by three generations of nieces and nephews, as well as close friends at The Village.
Services for Ms. Kilgore will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Haven Hospice of Gainesville (www.beyourhaven.org). The family wishes to thank The Village, Oak Hammock, and Haven Hospice for their care and support.
