Betty Faye McGee Hanson's Obituary
Betty Faye McGee Hanson, 86, of Gainesville, Florida, passed away on February 9, 2026. She was born on July 3, 1939, in Vanleer, Tennessee, to Robert Goff and Olivia Vernelle McGee.
Betty earned her Master’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Florida and dedicated her career to caring for others and educating future nurses. She served as a nursing instructor at Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, where she was respected for her knowledge, patience, and genuine compassion for her students.
Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose kindness touched all who knew her. She lived a life rooted in faith, family, and quiet creativity. She found great joy and peace in caring for her plants, nurturing them with the same love and attention she gave to those around her. She especially enjoyed watching the sunrises at her home on Newnan’s Lake, finding quiet beauty and reflection in the start of each new day. In her free time, she enjoyed crafts such as crochet and needlepoint, creating beautiful handmade pieces that will be treasured by her family for generations.
A devoted Christian, Betty was a faithful member of Northwest Baptist Church. Her faith guided her life with strength, humility, and compassion. Her warm smile, gentle spirit, and unwavering kindness left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
She is survived by her loving family: her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Nancy Hanson, and their children, Olivia Hanson Cronin (Kyle), Jacob, and Nicholas; and her daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Bill Cason, and their children, Ryan and Chloe. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Barbara McGee; her sister and brother-in-law, Annetta and Joe McClure; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Robert Hanson, and her sister, Lauretta McGee.
Betty’s legacy of faith, love, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A graveside service will be held Monday, February 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Meadows Central Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Northwest Baptist Church, Gainesville, Fl or to a charity of your choice in her honor.
