Bette J. Bowens' Obituary
Bette Bowens, 86, of Gainesville, Florida, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. Born on August 24, 1939, in Mount Vernon, Ohio, Bette grew up with her two younger brothers.
Bette spent her life loving God and serving others, at home and in her work. Her light shone through a variety of administrative leadership roles, including with the City of Columbus, the University of Florida, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, and The Academy at the Family Church. Her greatest joy came from selflessly providing for her loved ones.
She cherished spending time with family and friends—including those with four legs, floppy ears, and wagging tails.

Bette is survived by her daughters, Peggy (Tom) Brown, Laura Weston, and Sharon Beckwith; brother, Bob Haas; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Bowens; sons, Jonathan Koser and Steven Weston; grandson, Michael Poston; brother, Ronald Haas; and parents, Francis and Marguerite Haas.
A celebration of Bette’s life will be held on Saturday, February 28, at 11:00 AM at Greenhouse Church, 11200 NW 39th Ave, Gainesville, FL.
