Bernice JoAnn Ferger's Obituary
Bernice JoAnn Ferger, 84, passed from this life to the next on June 6, 2023. She was born on August 26, 1938, to Vivian Grace and James Ashley McCall, and grew up in rural Madison County, Florida.
JoAnn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and is survived by her husband, Ronald Ferger, her children Katrina Larkin, Susanne Katz, and DeAnn Thompson, and her stepchildren Brian Ferger, Chris Ferger, and Tracey Cori, ten grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
A vivacious woman, JoAnn was a mother, homemaker, and a Registered Nurse who worked at both Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and Shands Hospital in Gainesville during the course of her career. Outside of work she enjoyed many hobbies over the years, sewing for herself and her family, decorating, needlework, cooking (the more family members there at her table the better), gardening and traveling with her husband Ron, and teaching children in Sunday School at Westside Baptist Church in Gainesville.
JoAnn passed on her love for reading to her children and grandchildren, sharing her books with them and funding schoolbook fair and book club purchases. She cared for many family pets over the years, from dogs to ponies to squirrels, and her Persian cats in particular. She truly fit the Proverbs 31 definition of a woman worth far more than rubies and will be in the hearts and mind of her family forever.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 10:00 A. M., at the Memorial Cemetery, Lake City, with Rev. Chris Ferger, officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 9, 2023, from 5:00 to 7:00 P. M., at the Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Westarea, 823 NW 143rd St., Newberry, FL.
