Beatriz Lucia McDonald's Obituary
Beatriz Lucía McDonald (née Beatriz Lucía Teresa Bárbara Infante Mendez), deceased August 8th, 2024, in Gainesville, Florida, was born to parents Roberto Infante Bermudez and María Mendez Barreneche on December 4th, 1932, in Santa Marta, Colombia. She was one of nine brothers and sisters (Roberto, Pedro, Jacobo, Rafael, María, Rosa, Margarita and Teresita). A devout Catholic, Beatriz attended the religious school Colegio de la Presentación in Santa Marta with her siblings. In 1961, she travelled to Gardner, Massachusetts, USA to visit her sister Teresita who had married and settled there. While visiting, Beatriz met and fell in love with Joseph McDonald, who she married just months later in Wichendon, Massachusetts on December 30th, 1961. Their first child, Carol, was born in 1963, followed by Robert in 1964 and Bruce in 1966. While the children were still young, Beatriz and Joseph moved to Margate, FL, where they lived for many years, and later to Gainesville, FL to live close to their daughter Carol and grandchildren. Beatriz and Joseph were married for 62 years, until Joseph’s passing in January 2023. Beatriz was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother devoted to her family and to God. She always had a rosary in hand and was often found praying in her favorite rocking chair. She is survived and will be dearly missed by her children, her grandchildren who know her as “Mima” (Ellen Yeats, Kira McDonald, Eric Yeats, Kelsey McDonald, and Kenneth Victor Nelson), her sister Mary, her nieces and nephews, and her longtime caretaker Kadiedre Dawson (a.k.a. “Dora”). We love you Mima, may you rest in peace.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at 11:00 A. M., at St. Madeleine Catholic Church, 17155 NW US Highway 441, High Springs, with Father Sebastian George, celebrant.
