Barbara Winifred Simmons Myhree's Obituary
Barbara Winifred Simmons Myhree, 98 1/2 passed on November 19, 2018, peacefully at Haven Hospice in Gainesville, FL.
She was born in 1920 in Lowell Massachusetts. She graduated in 1942 with a bachelor’s degree in library science from Simmons College in Boston Massachusetts. She was a librarian at Chelsea Naval base in Chelsea Massachusetts where she met the love of her life, her husband to be, Dr. Earl P. Myhree. They moved to St Petersburg, FL in 1954. She was a loving and devoted mother to her five children while active in church and helping out at her husband’s medical practice. They moved to Gainesville FL in 2000 where she volunteered at AL’z Place until she was 91 years old receiving volunteer of the year award.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Dr. Earl P. Myhree; her eldest son, Drew M. Myhree and her brother, James M. Simmons.
She is survived by four children, Dr. Curtis G. Myhree and his wife Michelle of Terra Ceia, FL and children Lydia, Chelsea, Luke and Peter; Lynne M. Zirkelbach and her husband John of Gainesville, FL and children, Adam and Erika; Wayne S. Myhree and his wife Pamela of Williston, FL and son, Drew; and Dr. Lane B. Myhree of Gainesville, FL, along with six great-grandchildren.
A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Al’z Place/Elder care of the Alachua County, 5701 NW 34 Blvd., Gainesville, FL 32653.
