Barbara McNulty-Harrington's Obituary
Barbara McNulty-Harrington, born January 2, 1935, in Elizabeth, NJ, to Anna DeMichele and Carl Stacy, passed away at home at the age of 89 on March 15, 2024, surrounded by family.
Barbara graduated in 1957 with a BSN from Seton Hall University. She was one of the first female students accepted into this traditionally all male college’s foray into co-ed education. She was enrolled in one of two National experimental collegiate Nursing Curriculums. Seton Hall finally became a fully co-ed institution in 1968.
She served on the Freehold environmental commission, was president of the Deborah Heart and Lung Freehold chapter. Served extensively as an Admiral Farragut Academy volunteer and enthusiastic member of the Ft. Walton Yacht Club and adored her Sailboat races.
Her primary residences were Freehold, NJ, Pt. Pleasant NJ, Toms River, NJ, and Shalimar, FL.
She was a consummate caretaker and dedicated civic leader, loving wife and mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be sorely missed. She was predeceased by two husbands, Richard McNulty, and Charles Harrington Col. Ret., both career pilots and recreational boat captains.
She is survived by her sisters Fran Caldwell, Lillian Stacey and Gladys Mastain, and brother Rick DeMichele; daughters Ann Marie Bowring, Linda Szymczyk, Barbara Olson, Sally Johnson, and sons John McNulty, and Michael Harrington; her twelve Grandchildren Hayley Preto, Maxwell Warrack, Jack McNulty, Connor McNulty, Donald Olson, Tiffany Olson, Nickolas Olson, Kristina Harrington, Richard Harrington, BJ Harrington, Bryanna Harrington, Richard Szymczyk, Michele Szymczyk, and John Cassidy. She was also blessed with 7 great-grandchildren.
Her funeral service will be conducted on March 22, 2024, 11:00 am at the Williams-Thomas Funeral Home in Jonesville FL. The ceremony will be officiated by Fr. Figi of the Queen of Peace and her final resting place will be Arlington Cemetery at a date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, her family requests any donations be made to Haven Hospice, of 4200 NW 90th Blvd, Gainesville, FL 32606, they served tirelessly and went above and beyond in their care and compassion for her and her family.
