Barbara J. Guthrie

Barbara J. Guthrie, a steadfast pillar of love and care in her community and family, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones. A longtime resident of Hawthorne, FL, Barbara's dedication to her family and her sharp wit left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Barbara was born in Boston, MA on December 31, 1945. She did her best to keep her family connected and was the matriarch to all in her family. She carried these values throughout her life, always prioritizing her role as a mother, daughter, sister, and wife. Her career as a Lab assistant at AGH and Shands Hospital spanned several decades, where she contributed diligently and passionately until her retirement. Barbara's sense of humor was legendary—she had a knack for bringing lightness into the room, making people laugh with her unique perspective on life’s various situations. She was protective of those she loved, always ready to offer support or a word of advice when needed. If she were to give advice, she’d remind you of the "three P’s of money spending," a token of wisdom that everything should have a Place, Purpose, and the Price should be fair. Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harry M. Guthrie, 2 brothers Robert and Arthur Moors, her sister Joan Lim and 2 sons John and Troy Deming. Barbara's legacy continues through her children, Patty Nolden, Eric Deming (Rebecca) and Denise Pharr (Jeff), her 11 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren, who will miss her dearly but are comforted by the multitude of warm memories they shared. A graveside service will be held at Johnson Cemetery (427 Co Rd 21, Hawthorne, FL 32640) in Johnson, Fl. Monday, January 20th, 2025, at 12:00 PM, followed by a catered celebration of life at Blue Sky Manor, 103 Beason St. Interlachen, Fl, 32148, where family and friends can share stories and honor the remarkable life she led. In place of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society, a cause close to Barbara’s heart. Barbara's passing is a profound loss, yet her spirit and the love she shared will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. She would not want you to mourn her leaving her earthly body, but to celebrate her returning to our “Maker in the Heaven.”
