Barbara Kington Baldwin's Obituary
Barbara Kington Baldwin passed away at Charter Senior Living in Gainesville, Florida, on July 31, 2024. She was born on April 18, 1931, in Morganfield, Kentucky. She was the eldest daughter born to George M. Kington and Helen Sugg Kington.
Barbara grew up in Madisonville, Kentucky, and upon graduation from high school, she attended Sophie Newcom Girls College in New Orleans, Louisiana. Although she loved being at Sophie Newcome, she greatly missed her high school sweetheart, John D. Baldwin, Jr., and transferred to the University of Kentucky where John attended and where she pledged Chi Omega Sorority and graduated. Barbara and John married after graduation from college and eventually moved to Gainesville in 1959.
Barbara was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church having served in many areas of the church for over 50 years. She was a soprano soloist and a member of the Wesley adult choir throughout her membership.
Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who cherished her family and loved them well. She is survived by her four children, John Dan Baldwin, III (Suzanne), Michael K. Baldwin (Stephanie), Barbara “Bebe” Baldwin Trombetta (Mark), and Robb W. Baldwin (Monika), 11 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. Barbara was affectionately known as “Honey” to all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She greeted everyone with her beautiful smile, her kind words and she always saw the best in everyone. She was a good and faithful servant and loved by all who knew her.
The family is especially appreciative of the love and care that Barbara received from the wonderful staff at Charter Senior Living during the past six months.
There will be a private burial service for family and a Celebration of Life Reception will be held August 17, 2024, at Plantation Hall in Haile Village Center, 5100 SW 91st Terrace, Gainesville, Florida, between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. All friends and family are invited to attend.
