Ayhan and Gene were an important part of my family. My mother found Gene perhaps 30 years ago through genealogical search. They were distant cousins. Ayhan welcomed the connection. and as a family, we visited Ayhan and Gene in Gainesville multiple times. I will never forget her delicious Turkish cooking and her gifting me some Turkish Delight! Ayhan and I kept in touch over the years, even when my mother passed four years ago. I was amazed at her ability to absorb loss and tragedy and to retain her sweet and beautiful smile. She never failed to send me greetings for birthdays and other events. I had been wondering how she was doing lately, and I just called her number and didn't get an answer. I am taking my son for a UF tour week after next, and I wanted to visit Ayhan. When I didn't get an answer, I thought something might be wrong, and I found this obituary. Much love and sympathy to her children and grandchildren, whom she adored and was so proud of.

We have such warm and happy memories of Ayhan and Gene, with their wonderful kindness and humour, ever since our first stay in Gainesville in 1965.
They will be a great miss.

I live in the uk. I only knew her and Gene for about 20 years, we travelled over for thanksgiving each year, but grew to like, admire and love Ayhan. She was such kind lovable person. To be in her presence was a joyous thing, she was so alive. Harry
My aunt Ayhan was the last person who was there at my birth. She played M’amselle to me when I was little, she played with me. Since she was a university student, I wanted to skip elementary and HS and be like her. That did not work out, but I had the same professors in Ankara Univ, Faculty of English Language and Literature that my mother Perihan and aunt Ayhan had. Proud to have started a life of education in their footsteps. In loving memory of her who always stood by my side.
My beloved aunt Ayhan was the last person who remembered the day I was born and II remember later how she used to play the song M’amselle to me,in Ankara, Turkey. And because she was a university student I also wanted to be one, skip elementary and high school. Didn’t work that way, but I was fortunate enough to study under the same professors that my Mother Perihan and Ayhan had in the Faculty of English Language and Literature in Ankara. Proud to have followed in their footsteps during the initial years of higher education.
A wonderful testament, to a wonderful woman. With a beautiful, loving, caring and compassionate heart 💝

Ayhan’s obituary describes her perfectly. She was a fabulous sister-in-law ! I certainly will miss our phone calls and texts. ❤️❤️❤️
