Arlene VanWinkle Sherrod's Obituary
Arlene VanWinkle Sherrod was born on July 9, 1928 to Helen Robinson and William E. VanWinkle in Berea, KY.
Her parents and a brother, Billy predeceased her, as did a niece Diane, and her son’s father Edgar Allen Sherrod.
Survived by a son, John Allen “Jack” Sherrod (Valorie); a son, William Ted "Bill" Sherrod; and 4 grandsons, Alex, Jacob, Jarod and James.
In carrying out my mom’s wishes, the following was written by her.
Remember always how much I have loved all of you. In my youth I was not confident enough to seek fame and glory. What I really wanted was to have a few children and be a good mother. Obviously I didn’t know how hard it is for some of us to build a family. My chance came later in life, and it seems I wasn’t well prepared. A second chance later with grandchildren I never expected to have, six of them!
I have had over twenty years with four of the greatest grandsons ever, each of them special in his own way. I have been grateful, it has been fun and it has at times been tiring… But always what I asked for, so many years ago.
My granddaughters have not been a big part of my life, but I have loved them too. Remembering how hard I made my own life during the ages they are now, I can only hope with all my heart that they will find happiness and meaningful lives.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Arlene’s life will be held Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at her home, at The Rip VanWinkle Ranch.
