Annis Spring Puffer's Obituary
Annis Spring Puffer, age 94 of Gainesville, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2015 at her home.
Mrs. Puffer was a native of Indianapolis, Indiana, born on April 9, 1921 to the late Edward A. and Annis Emily Spring Legg. She lived in Indianapolis, Hollywood, Florida and New York City before moving to Miami Beach. She graduated in 1939 from Miami Beach High School, where she met her to-be-husband, John W. Puffer, Jr., known to everyone as Jack. She continued her education at National Park College in Forest Glen, Maryland, where she graduated in 1941. On July 27, 1941 in West Palm Beach, Florida, she and Jack were married. They had been married 72 years at the time of Jack’s death in 2013. Mrs. Puffer was also preceded in death by her daughter, Judy Lindsey of Meridian, Idaho.
Early in her marriage she was a military wife while Jack served as an Army Air Corps fighter pilot during WWII. During the war, she lived mostly at Key Field in Meridian, Mississippi. After the war, they moved to Miami, Florida and she lived in Florida for the rest of her life, having lived in Hollywood, Plantation Key and Gainesville after leaving Miami.
She is survived by three children; John W. Puffer, III (Blanche) of Tampa, Julie P. Smith (Dan) of Palm Beach Gardens and Jenny P. Elkins (Dale) of Tampa and her son-in-law Bill Lindsey of Meridian, Idaho. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.
She was the consummate mother and grandmother. Her devotion to her family was unwavering and an enduring inspiration to four generations. Her unqualified love was truly special.
A Memorial Service will be conducted Monday, May 18, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., in the Community Presbyterian Church, 20098 North US 441, McIntosh, with Rev. Scott Simmons officiating and Jim Walkup assisting. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community Presbyterian Church, or to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd., Gainesville, FL 32606.
