Annie Ruth Sapp's Obituary
Annie Ruth Sapp “Nana” as she was affectionately known by her grandchildren passed away Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the home of her daughter with her loved ones by her side, after a lengthy illness. Annie Ruth was born November 24, 1918 in O’Brien, Florida. Her parents were George Gordon Smith form Coffee County, GA and Vernie Lynn from Perry, FL.
Annie Ruth lived through the Great Depression and being widowed early on, she always worked to provide for herself, mother and brother. She loved to play the piano, guitar and harmonica and continued to play when she was 98 years old. In her younger years she would gather with her siblings and neighbors on Thursday nights to sing and play their instruments. They called themselves the “Huskies”. She loved to read and study the history of the Civil War.
One of her favorite sayings was, “You know I am almost 100 years old” and she was.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Sapp and siblings, Orlando Smith, G.W. Smith and Hilda Polk Henry.
Annie Ruth leaves behind her son, Dan Gordon Sapp (Brenda); daughter, Norma Sapp Townsend (Wade, Jr.); grandchildren, Danny Sapp, Dr. Wade Townsend, III, (Cindy) and Jason Sapp (Lisa); great grandchildren, Courtney Sapp, Buddy Landry, Alicia Landry, Leea Sapp Day (Irvin), Stephen Townsend and Daniel Townsend and great great grandchildren, Aaden and Major Day.
Graveside Services will be held Friday, January 27, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in Fairbanks Cemetery with Pastor Howard Long officiating.
