Annelle Spencer McIntyre's Obituary
Annelle Spencer McIntyre, of Gainesville, Florida, died on May 2, 2023, at the Palm Gardens nursing home in Gainesville. She was 101 year old.
Annelle was born Dec. 8, 1921, near Athens, Georgia. Her family lived in the Athens area until moving to Florida. Annelle graduated from Plant City High School and later lived in Brooksville, where she married her husband Archie in 1943.
Annelle was employed by the state Agricultural Extension Service in Brooksville and later worked for the State Extension Office in Gainesville, while her husband attended the University of Florida. The couple lived in Homestead, Florida, 1949-69, where Annelle worked for the Dade County public schools, was active in many aspects of the First United Methodist Church, was PTA president at Avocado Elementary School, and raised her sons Edison and Donald. The family moved to Gainesville in 1969, where Annelle served for 18 years as bookkeeper at Buchholz High School before retiring in 1988. She was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Gainesville, where she was active in Alert, United Methodist Women, and the Fisherman's Sunday School Class. Annelle also was a member of the Gainesville Woman's Club and the American Business Women's Association, and a volunteer at the Philips Center for the Performing Arts. For several years she was an active community member of the Villages of West End, and since 2018 she had been a resident of The Village, until her recent illness.
Annelle was preceded in death by her husband Archie McIntyre, of Gainesville; her parents, Ernest Young Spencer and Bunny Hardy Spencer, of Brooksville; her brothers Curtis Y. Spencer of Lakeland, Florida, and Ernest G. Spencer of Brooksville; her sister, Robbie Spencer Click of Gainesville; and her longtime friend and companion Lyle Landis of Gainesville. She is survived by her son, Edison McIntyre of Durham, N.C., and her son and daughter-in-law Donald and Pam McIntyre of Gainesville; her nieces Anne Spencer Daves of Orlando, Florida, and Deborah Click Vinetas of West St. Paul, Minn; her nephews Daniel L. McIntyre of Vero Beach, Florida, and Kevin McIntyre of Brooksville; several great-nieces and -nephews, and many dear relations and friends.
Annelle will be interred in the Brooksville Cemetery, alongside her husband and parents. As she desired, there will be a brief graveside service at 2:00 p.m. on May 8, 2023, but no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorials honoring Annelle can be made to Trinity United Methodist Church in Gainesville, or to the Florida United Methodist Children's Home in Enterprise, Florida.The family wishes to thank Haven Hospice of Gainesville, the caring staff at Palm Garden Health and Rehabilitation Center, and caregiver Donna Owen for their kind attention and assistance to Annelle and her family.
