Anne Elizabeth Hobbs' Obituary
Anne Elizabeth Hobbs died October 16, 2017 following surgery. Anne was born June 26, 1930 at the family farm adjoining the Hudson River in Easton, Washington County, NY.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Warren Nulty and Sarah Harrington Nulty and her brother, James Nulty II.
Anne is survived by her husband of 62 years, Charles H. Hobbs; daughters, Cheryl (Stanley) Riter of Mebane, NC, Barbara (Robert) Kelsey of Ocala, FL and Susanne Hobbs of Herdon, VA; grandchildren, Sara (Andrew) Chiera of Delray Beach, FL, Alicia (Robert) Tait of Odessa, FL, Steven Kelsey of Tampa, FL, and 2 great granddaughters.
Anne was a graduate of Greenwich High School. She received her Registered Nursing degree at Union University and Albany Hospital. She began her nursing career in New York and briefly moved to Florida to work as part of the first nursing staff of the hospital that later became the Miami Heart Institute.
In 1954 Anne returned to Albany Hospital where she specialized in critical burn cases.
She met her husband-to-be on a blind date. They were happily married for over 62 years. They resettled in Wayne, PA in 1960. Anne was active in the Methodist Church, Girl Scouts, and the Red Cross in both New York and Pennsylvania.
Anne resumed her nursing career after the children were older. She began part time at the Cathcart Nursing Home in Devon, PA and then full time on the medical-surgical ward of Bryn Mawr Hospital, PA for 10 years. After a few years of retirement, she became bored and worked for several years at the Devon Manor Nursing Home, Devon, PA.
After her husband’s retirement, the couple had a house built in Florida’s Marsh Creek Country Club in St. Augustine. They resided there until 1995 until moving to the Village in Gainesville in 2005.
Anne was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church, 4000 NW 53rd Ave, with Rev. Lenora Rousseau officiating, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorials to the American Heart Association, 1101 Northchase Parkway Suite 1, Marietta, GA 30067, or to the ASPCA, PO Box 96929 Washington, DC 20090.
