Anna Elizabeth "Betty" Curran's Obituary
Anna Elizabeth “Betty” Curran passed away at the age of 90 at E.T. York Haven Hospice in Gainesville, Florida, on October 9, 2015. Betty was born in Virginia Beach, Virginia, married her husband, David B. Curran and relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, after his tour in the U.S. Navy was completed in 1947. She was preceded in death by her husband who passed away in 1982. Betty is survived by her three children, Beverley Ann Hilton and Donna R. Foster of Gainesville, Florida, and Martin C. Curran of Palm City, Florida. She was the proud grandmother of four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She loved and cherished her family.
Betty was a Diploma Registered Nurse graduating from the DePaul Hospital School of Nursing in Norfolk, Virginia. During World War II, Betty served was a member of the Navy Nurse Cadet Corps. She retired after 35 years of nursing in Cleveland, Ohio, before relocating to Jupiter, Florida, where she continued nursing until the age of 80. After relocating to Gainesville in 2006, Betty continued her love of nursing to include volunteering in the Diabetes Education Center at North Florida Regional Medical Center, where she was honored as Volunteer Emeritus. Betty was honored by the Palm Beach County Director of Nurses Association in 2006 for more than 60 years of dedicated nursing service.
Betty was a member of the Virginia Beach Chapter of the Eastern Star and actively involved as a member of the Auxiliary Board in the Fraternal Order of Eagles #4385 Eagles Landing in Gainesville, Florida. She loved the area sewing and quilt guilds and was a member for many years. She attended Westside Baptist Church in Gainesville, Florida.
Betty will be laid to rest with her husband David at Riverside Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio. A memorial service will be conducted in the future, honoring her life.
