Andrew Jeffrey Peet's Obituary
ANDREW JEFFREY PEET
09-19-1996 ~ 05-05-2024
Our sweet Andrew passed away peacefully at home, held and comforted by us, Sunday, May 5, 2024. He lived an amazing, full 27 years, despite significant limitations. He consistently surprised medical professionals with his endurance & good health much of his life. Andrew loved being with his family, being included in gatherings with others, and being part of our travels and activities. He was a huge Gator fan, regularly sporting orange and blue, starting from his birth in Gainesville, Florida during UF’s football season, joining our family of extreme Gators. He grew up amidst his siblings and their friends, at all their school and sport activities, and church masses and varied events. He was accepted and embraced by all who knew our family, touching the hearts of those he met, without speaking a word. His favorite place was home, especially his daily dose of “holding time” in dad’s arms, or cuddles and massages with mom. He even enjoyed our intuitive, unofficial ‘therapy dog’, Harper’s, wet kisses and snuggles, and neighborhood walks, with her alongside. Justin and Caroline have been the most incredibly supportive and caring brother and sister all these years, taking his challenges in stride and helping with his needs, in a million ways. Ultimately, his body grew too tired; he is now united in heaven with his oldest brother, Alex. We were blessed to be entrusted with his care, and will miss him the rest of our lives. We are comforted envisioning him, together with Alex, in fully healed bodies. Andrew attended PPEC medical daycare for many years. He graduated May 2017 from Sidney Lanier School’s home school special education program.
Andrew is survived by his parents, Jeff & Karen Peet, brother Justin (Shelby) Peet, sister Caroline (Niko) Cousins, niece Eleanor Peet, maternal grandmother Elaine Schmid, as well as all his aunts, uncles and cousins. Additionally, we include his devoted longtime caregivers, Duffy Ronayne and Cynthia Cannady, who became family through the years. He was preceded in death by brother Alex Peet, maternal grandfather Thomas Schmid, paternal grandmother Leona Peet & paternal aunt Andrea Peet.
A Celebration of Life will be held June 15, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Queen of Peace Catholic Church 10900 SW 24th Ave, Gainesville, Florida 32607. A reception will follow at the same location after the service to visit with family.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to NORD (National Organization of Rare Disorders). Andrew’s metabolic disease is one of 7000 under this umbrella; most are untreatable, in need of research funding, to discover CURES.
