Andrew Lee Lopez's Obituary
Andrew Lee Lopez, age 49 of Micanopy, Florida peacefully passed away surrounded by loved ones on August 1, 2017 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born October 23, 1967 in Smithville, Missouri to Joe and Loretta Weber Lopez, Jr. Andrew served in the United States Army and received a degree in Advertising from Florida International University prior to earning a J.D. degree from the University of Florida. He was a founding partner in the Lopez & Lopez Law Firm.
Andrew was passionate about the Florida Gators and K.C. Royals and enjoyed playing sports, especially basketball, throughout his life. He was best known for his adventurous spirit, lively conversations, unique brand of humor, and loyalty to his friends and family. He discovered harmony and balance in nature and loved the outdoors and adventure travel. He was often found on the trail, any trail, including his go-to Bolen’s Bluff trail on Paynes Prairie, local area trails, and the trails on his yearly camping and mountain trekking trips. In 2014, he went on a two month solo backpacking trip throughout the Pacific Northwest which he described as a life-changing experience. He spent as much time as possible at the beach – listening to music, gazing at the painted skies, and enjoying long walks on the sand. At the end of his life, Andrew renewed his relationship with God by putting his complete faith and trust in the death and resurrection of Jesus, his Savior.
He was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his fiancée, Shannon L. Eggers and her daughters, Sierra, Sydney and Kate Millinor, mother, Loretta Lopez of Gainesville, GA; siblings, Kennith Lopez (Robbin) of Margate, FL, Laura Walters (Dwight) of Rabun Gap, GA, David Lopez (Holly) of Bonita Springs, FL and Rachel Maglinger (Rob) of Omaha, NE; 10 nieces and nephews, Leah Coca, Bethany Attard, Amy Lopez, Ben Walters, Daniel Walters, Maddie Morden, Natalie Lopez, Brett Lopez, Roman Maglinger and Ryland Maglinger.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 1 pm. WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME WESTAREA, 823 NW 143rd Street. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Friends of Paynes Prairie organization, https://www.prairiefriends.org
