Alma Lucille Newsome's Obituary
Alma Lucille Newsome, fondly known as “Nanny” passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, April 16, 2023. She was born on Christmas Day in 1942 in Quincy, FL to Clyde and Inez McPherson Bentley.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Howard David Newsome, sisters, Patricia Reeves, Carol Alongis, Betty Porter; brother, David Bentley and grandson, Timothy Green.
She retired from Lake Forest Elementary after a 29 year long career. She began as a teacher’s aide, then spent most of that time working in the library as a media assistant as well as many other capacities around the school. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She also had a great love for books, hummingbirds and gospel singings.
She is survived by her son, Gregory Newsome; daughters, Angie Perry and Cyndy Newsome; four grandchildren, Heather McMahan (Darrell), Adam Newsome (Tina), Shelbie Green and Elayna Green; three great granddaughters, Hayleigh, Alexis, and Aubrey McMahan.
The family would like to extend a special Thank you, to Haven Hospice for the exceptional care she received.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Williams-Thomas Funeral Home, 404 North Main St. with Pastor Mario Martinez officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Countryside Cemetery, 10926 NW 39th avenue.
