Alice Schwartz's Obituary
Alice Kay Schwartz, born March 3, 1945 to (Carl) Edward and Bertha Goetz in Covington, KY, passed away due to complications from colon cancer on January 15, 2026 at Haven Hospice in Gainesville, FL. Alice, her husband Richard, and their two sons had lived in Gainesville since 1974 when Richard began teaching chemistry at Santa Fe (Community) College. They were married 51 years.
Alice graduated from St. Henry High School, Erlanger, KY, in 1963. She worked at Swigart’s Jewelry for a few years with her Aunt Elsie before marrying Richard on December 14, 1968. Afterward, they lived in Atlanta, GA (GA Tech) and Anderson, SC (Clemson) for a couple of years before moving to Gainesville, FL.
Alice was a very loving, caring, and supportive mother and grandmother, who lived out her vocation to the sacrament of marriage very well. Once her children were older, she worked at Santa Fe College and Saint Francis Catholic High School in secretarial/office support positions until her retirement.
Alice was a longtime parishioner at Holy Faith Catholic Church. She made her Cursillo in 1994 and was active in her parish as an RCIA sponsor, Landings sponsor, and member of a Little Rock Scripture Studies group. She also helped usher at Mass with her husband as needed. She enjoyed reading, classical and piano music, as well as collecting lighthouses and teddy bears.
She is survived by her sons, Paul and Russell; three grandchildren, Alanna, Nicholes, and Alexa; as well as a great-grandchild, Lilianna. Also, by her brother Jack, sisters Sue and Beth, and many nieces and nephews in Kentucky.
A funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Faith Catholic Church, 747 NW 43rd St., Gainesville with Fr. Figi Philip George and Fr. Mike Williams as celebrants. Interment will follow in St. Madeleine cemetery. A Prayer service will be held Monday, January 26, 2026 at the Holy Faith Catholic church from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
