Alice Marie Hamler's Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Alice Marie Hamler, a beloved
mother, sister, aunt, and treasured friend. Alice passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026 on
her birthday, at the age of 74 in Gainesville, Florida, where she touched the lives of many with
her kindness and bright spirit.
Born at home on February 4, 1952, in Duplin County, North Carolina, Alice was the cherished
daughter of Arthur Jacob Hamler and Virginia Dare Hamler. Her childhood was filled with
memorable summers spent on Lake Erie, though she carried a lifelong fear of water that
became one of her endearing quirks. Her younger years were full of unforgettable memories,
laying the foundation for a life filled with joy, laughter, and connection.
Alice graduated from Mulberry High School, where she built lifelong friendships and
demonstrated an early determination to succeed. Her eventual career path led her to become
an administrative secretary and assistant for various companies throughout her life, where her
exceptional dedication and remarkable skill shone. Alice proudly worked for 18 years at the
University of Florida, providing her expertise in the UF Foundation department the last 15 years
there, displaying unparalleled professionalism and warmth to everyone she encountered. Her
legendary ability to type over 170 words per minute set her apart and spoke to her tenacious
nature. She retired in April 2025, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and sincerity.
As a mother, Alice’s pride and joy were her twin sons, Stacy King Evans and Kevin Allen Evans.
She embraced every moment with them, cherishing family outings, shared laughter, and time
spent together. Her passion for traveling often brought her to the mountains, where she reveled
in the beauty of nature and delighted in snow skiing adventures. She was unapologetically a fan
of cinema, Yellowstone, and the simple joys life offered. Alice’s Baptist faith guided her
throughout her life, instilling values of love, compassion, and hope.
Alice’s unforgettable smile, infectious laughter, and optimistic outlook served as a beacon of
positivity to everyone who knew her. She was humbly defined by her humorous and carefree
nature, leaving an everlasting impact on all who crossed her path.
She is lovingly survived by her twin sons, Stacy King Evans and Kevin Allen Evans; her sister,
Barbara Ann Owen, and brother-in-law Gene Owen; and her nephew, Kyle Owen, who carry
forward her memory with love and gratitude. Alice is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur
Jacob Hamler and Virginia Dare Hamler, and her brother, Frederick Carroll Hamler.
A graveside memorial will be held to celebrate the life of Alice Marie Hamler on Wednesday,
February 11, 2026 at 2 p.m., at Newberry Cemetery in Newberry, Alachua County, Florida. The
service will be officiated by Baptist minister James Riley.
Family, friends, and all who were touched by Alice’s radiant presence are welcome to attend as we remember and honor her extraordinary life. Alice’s legacy of joy, humor, and an unwavering care for loved ones will continue to resonate in our hearts forever.
