Alice Priscilla Manchego Beckham's Obituary
Alice Priscilla Manchego Beckham, 86, of Hawthorne, FL passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at E.T. York Haven Hospice after a brief illness. She was born to Carlos and Clara Torrez Manchego on June 9, 1928 in Longmont, Colorado. She grew up in different areas of Colorado and met her future husband, James O. (J.O.) Beckham, in Denver at the end of WWII. Upon his discharge from the U.S. Army Air Corp they moved to Hawthorne, FL, his childhood home, where they lived for the remainder of their lives.
Mrs. Beckham was a homemaker. Following J.O.’s death in 1989, she became a Foster Grandparent at Shell Elementary School in Hawthorne where she volunteered for the next 18 years until physically unable to do so. She was very proud to be called Grandma Beckham by so many children and adored the affection they showed her.
Mrs. Beckham was a member for 67 years of Orange Creek/Campville United Methodist Church where, in her younger years, she taught Sunday School. Serving God was her passion. She was an adoring mother and grandmother.
She is survived by son, Ronald Beckham of Hawthorne, FL; daughter, Mary Beardsley (David) of Gainesville, FL; son, Randall Beckham of Hawthorne, FL; brother, Emelio Torrez of San Carlos, California; two sisters, Emily Bullock and Vangie Atencio (Lloyd), of Canon City, CO; three grandchildren, Lisa Stephens (Rod), Yvette Lachut (Todd), and Shawn Akers; 8 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Donald Holloman; daughter, Sandra Crosby; brother, Cruz Manchego; sisters, Betty Richardson and Nickie Pledger and granddaughter, Amy Beckham Hutchinson.
Services will be held Monday, March 30, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at Orange Creek/Campville United Methodist Church (County Road 219A between Hawthorne and Melrose), with Reverend Paul Daniels officiating. Family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Providence Cemetery, Windsor, FL. For those who wish, and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Orange Creek/Campville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 840, Hawthorne, FL 32640.
