Where do I start? There were a million memories made in the 20yrs I was around so I will share my favorite ones, the ones that will forever remind me of Dad..the core memories.
The love for sailing, which I had never done before, and the joy and ease with which he executed each maneuver, happiness etched on his face...I was never afraid with Dad at the helm.
The amazing deli sandwiches he would make, and the giant slices of watermelon he'd pass around at family gatherings....the "vitamins" after haystacks on friday, that turned out to be a giant bag of peanut M&Ms, which he happily shared with all of us because, he would point out, the soul needed vitamins too...
The long talks about anything and everything, and the way he would share his views without forcing them on you, or belittling yours..
But most of all, I remember Thanksgiving....how happy he was to have all of us there, and how he would go out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and happy...playing Balderdash and going on walks after Thanksgiving dinner because we were all too full...the warmth, laughter, and love. I cherish each and every memory I have of Dad, and I feel privileged to have known him. He is missed immensely.
Sail on Dad, you're not in irons anymore.
