Alfredo Antig Austria Jr.

Our family bids a fond farewell to our strong, loving, intelligent, and incomparable father, grandfather, husband, uncle, brother, cousin, and friend. Alfredo Antig Austria Jr. was born on November 15, 1955, in Concepcion, Batangas, Philippines, to Alfredo Austria Sr. and Araceli Antig Austria. He was a kind and generous soul who made sure to be present with his loved ones. Alfredo was the first of his generation to emigrate from the Philippines in pursuit of the American dream. In 1972, he followed his father, Alfredo Sr., to work in New Jersey, and helped chart a path for his mother and six siblings to follow. He later returned to the Philippines to ask Susan, his sweetheart from Batangas High School, for her hand in marriage. In 1975, the two were married in Batangas, Philippines, and then relocated to Passaic, New Jersey, to start their family. In 1985, Alfredo, Susan, and their children moved from New Jersey to Florida. Over the years, they made their home in Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, and Gainesville, Florida. Alfredo was a dedicated public servant and master building inspector. Having immigrated to the United States at a young age, his work ethic and compassion were reflections of his aspirational father, Alfredo Sr., and his loving mother, Araceli. While raising four children and building a home for his family, Alfredo earned an Associate’s Degree in Building Construction Technology from Manatee Community College in 1994. He earned a reputation as a hard-working and reliable colleague over his career in building inspection and amassed an immense portfolio of projects throughout the state of Florida. In his personal time, Alfredo pursued numerous interests, including building electronics kits in his adolescence, designing and flying model aircraft with his children, working on cars, and fixing everything mechanical and electrical around the house. Alfredo was committed to supporting his extended family in the Philippines, helping several of his cousins and his wife Susan’s relatives pursue the American dream. He also served as a proud ambassador for his Filipino community, becoming a founding member of the Filipino American Society in Port Charlotte in 1985 and contributing as a sergeant of arms, public relations officer and master of ceremonies at numerous events over the years. Like a true guardian, Alfredo embodied courage, integrity, and unwavering dedication to the well-being of his family. He cared deeply for his wife, Susan, remaining steadfastly by her side throughout their nearly 50 years of marriage and treasuring every moment they shared. Alfredo was an exceptional father and grandfather — the best a child could ever hope for. He never stopped sharing his love and providing his support to everyone who depended on him, always finding a way to be there when needed, lifting our spirits, and letting us know we were safe. Even in his golden years, his gentle nature remained a constant source of comfort, evident in his warm embrace and the unconditional care he provided to his family. He truly embodied the spirit of a devoted and loving family man. Alfredo leaves behind his greatest legacy — his children and grandchildren — each inheriting unique qualities from their kind and gentle father and grandfather, including strength, intelligence, inclusiveness, and a loving heart. On Monday, October 27, 2025, Alfredo was born into eternal life, preceded by his parents, Alfredo Austria Sr. and Araceli Antig Austria, and his loving wife, Susan Sulit Flores Austria. He is survived by his children, Charlyn (Michael), Mary Allen (Zachary), Aimee (Jonathon), and Alfred; his cherished grandchildren, Caitlyn, Ajria, and Chalid; and his siblings, Evangeline, Edwin, Herman, Ceres, Aileen, Jimena, and Winston. Our father, Alfredo, was a true example of gentle care and resilience — a powerful soul who loved fully until his final days. Rest in paradise, Tatay. We will never be the same without you, and your life of kindness will sustain us for the rest of our days. Funeral services for Alfredo will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 12:30 PM at Williams-Thomas Westarea Chapel, 823 NW 143rd St. Newberry, FL, with Fr. Jose Kulathinal officiating. Burial will follow at Countryside Cemetery in Gainesville, FL. A visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, November 14, 2025, at Williams-Thomas Funeral Home.
