Sharon Haughton

October 6, 2021

Sharon Haughton, 73, departed her loving family peacefully with us by her side on October 6th, 2021 after a brief diagnosis of ALS. She is survived by many that love her deeply: Bill Haughton, her husband of 43 years; her only child, Lorie Crawford; son-in-law, Robert Crawford; and her two grandsons – Patrick Crawford (Victoria Weinbrecht), Blake Crawford and her closest friends, The Band of Sisters. She was born in 1948 to Nina (Patsy) Kennedy Koger and James Kennedy in Charleston, West Virginia where she lived during her childhood years before moving to Gainesville, Florida in 1962 where she attended Gainesville High School, graduating in the Class of 1966. Despite living in Florida for 59 years she kept WV close to her heart. After high school, she earned a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics and a master’s degree in Interior Design from FSU then she returned to Gainesville, where she devoted her career to the University of Florida for 30 years. Above all, the most important thing in her life was her family and her friends. She was able to create a special bond with each family member and was blessed to have numerous friendships for decades. The majority of which we welcomed into our lives to become part of our extended family. Sharon was a talented gardener, our family genealogist, loved international traveling, and a devoted wife, mother, Gran, and friend. Her quick wit and sense of humor kept everyone laughing. She spent her days with her loved ones and served on several boards: Relay for Life and the Thomas Center. She was able to reunite so many by organizing numerous high school class reunions and monthly group dinners. We will celebrate Sharon’s beautiful life on November 20, 2021, at the Williams Thomas Westarea 823 NW 143rd Street Newberry, FL at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Team Gleason Foundation to support ALS patients.
