Lee Douglas Mintz

It is with great sadness that we share that Lee Douglas Mintz passed away on September 20th, 2024. He was born in Falls Church, Virginia to Barbara Mintz and Martin Mintz. He is survived by his wife, Dona-Marie Mintz, his two sons Joshua and Noah Mintz, his mother Barbara, and his two brothers Jeff Mintz and Harold Mintz. He grew up in Falls Church, Virginia before pursuing a Dental Laboratory Technology certification at Northern Virginia Community College. He had a long and enjoyable career at the University of Florida Dental School. He took extra time to mentor and coach students beyond the scope of his job. He was an unsung resource and friend for many students as they prepared for their state boards. He met his wife, Dona-Marie, in 1985 while both working for UF. They have been married for a happy 35 years. Not only did he work for UF, but he was a fan of anything UF athletics. If there was a game on, it was playing in his home. As an Eagle Scout (Class of 1980), he was passionate about volunteering for Boy Scouts of America. He found meaning in helping youth achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, including his two sons. He was influential in starting a uniform closet to remove financial barriers to joining Scouting. He was a collector and had a knack for finding unique treasures. He enjoyed woodworking and furniture refinishing and was known for saying ‘I can make that!’ He was a talented jewelry maker and created many pieces that his family will treasure. He enjoyed crabbing and fishing with his brothers. Greatest among his hobbies, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a loving father and husband. He volunteered to lead youth activities, supported college careers, and helped his sons transition into their own adult lives. He meticulously planned family vacations and made sure that each family memory was a magical one. Please join us in honoring his life and legacy. His funeral will be held at B’nai Israel Cemetery, 1101 E University Ave, Gainesville, FL, 32641, on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at 2pm. In Jewish tradition, the family will sit shivah and receive guests in their home following the funeral. Please contact the family if you would like to visit. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to make a donation to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, or the Dementia Society of America in his name.
