Rev. Dr. John Banks

Rev. Dr. John Banks was born April 12, 1949 to Glen Banks and Lillie Young Banks in Gainesville, FL. He matriculated through Alachua County schools, graduating from A.L. Mebane High School in 1967. He was a proud Bethune Cookman College Wildcat. He also obtained graduate degrees from University of Florida and Jacksonville Theological Seminary. He taught in various positions in Alachua County for many years. His community involvement was prolific, including Leadership Gainesville, Community Action Agency, Gainesville Community Housing Partners, Caring and Sharing School, and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. He pastored for the United Methodist Church, serving at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and Mt. Zion United Methodist Church for twenty-eight years. He was preceded in death by parents, Glen and Lillie Banks, daughter Tiffany Sawyer Banks, sisters: Evergreen Banks Gainey, Merlinda Banks Gainey, Minister Henrietta Doby, and Minister Willie Mae Carter. He is survived by wife, Carol V. Frazier Banks, children: Terasa Banks, Lavon Banks Williams (Ernest), Jihan Banks, Jonathan J. Banks, Travis Frazier, Joshua Banks (Valerie); grandchildren: Tahlia, Kiara, Janiah, Justin, Jason, Adam, Jishanna, Ayanna, Adrian, and Makayla. His surviving siblings are James Banks, Dearn Miller, Leola Gardner, Geneva Doby (Clement), Glen Banks (Patricia), and Beatrice Banks Hill, special nieces Angela Stallworth Harris and Destiny Carter, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He answered the call of Almighty God on December 31, 2020. We submit his legacy to the will of the Lord.
