Ann Poindexter Ives passed away peacefully, February, 19, 2020 at Oak Hammock at the University of Florida She was born in Hartford, Ct. March 25, 1929, graduated from Oxford School in 1949 and Colby Jr. College in 1951. Ann married her high school sweetheart John in 1951. Ann started a long volunteer service to Hospital Auxiliarys, first at Yale New Haven Hospital, next at Middlesex Memorial Hospital where she helped launch the Thrift Shop. When John became the CEO of UConn Hospital, Ann helped start their Auxiliary and was the second President. After their move to Gainesville Ann joined the Shands Auxiliary and was one of the organizers of the Shands Gift Shop. She was most proud of starting the Lady Gator Golf Boosters and served as its first president. Ann loved to travel and visited several foreign countries and states. She was an avid golfer and was a Club Champion. Her interest in golf led to her following John into Golf Rules Officiating. They officiated many Collegiate and High School tournaments and were very active in the Gainesville Jr. Golf Tour. She had been honored by the Gatortown Gators for her volunteer work in 2007. She is survived by her son Ralph, his wife Kelly and two grandsons, Justin (Dara) and Christian (Megan), and great grandchildren Hunter and Bailey. John (2019) and her two daughters pre-deceased her, Kathy at age 4 and Linda at age 22, both from life-long battles with Cystic Fibrosis. Friends may join in a celebration of her life at Oak Hammock March 5, 2020 from 5-7 pm. Burial will be private in West Hartford at a future time. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the UF Health Auxiliary at PO Box 100351, Gainesville, FL 32610.
