Robert W. Moffatt

MOFFATT, ROBERT W., 80, of Lake Butler, Florida and East Millinocket, Maine, passed away suddenly to his heavenly home on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at the North Florida Hospital. He was born in Fort Fairfield, Maine on March 6, 1936, son of the late Truman and Pauline (Whitney) Moffatt. Robert was a communicant of St. Madelene’s Catholic Church and a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Robert is survived by his wife, Shirley (Pelkey) Moffatt, sharing 62 years of a loving and devoted marriage; and beloved children Roberta (Bobbie Ann) Condon and her husband Brian of Lake Butler, Florida, Dorothy Orr and her husband Paul of Columbus, Ohio, William Moffatt and his wife Lori of Medway, Maine, Kathleen Sullivan and her husband Brian of Coventry, Rhode Island and Mary Thompson and her husband Joel of Windham, Maine. Robert was known as “Papa” by his adoring grandchildren, Maghan Harmon and special friend Russell, Ashley Sprague and her husband George, Danielle and her significant other Jarod, Shannon and her special friend Matthew, Anthony, Brandon and Christopher and his special friend Olivia, Misty and her family from California along with five great grandchildren, Matthew (MJ), Harlee, Ryleigh-Ann, Wyatt and Piper and many very dear Canadian relatives. Robert also shared many memorable moments with several nieces, nephews and godchildren as well. He is predeceased by his father, Truman Moffatt, his mother, Pauline (Whitney) Moffatt Ryder and his stepfather, Marion Ryder. Robert was an honorable man of integrity and character. He was a devoted husband, father and an especially devoted son, providing a van with a wheelchair lift in order to take his Mother out to lunch and for a ride every Sunday without fail. He cherished his family fun and celebrations at the camp he built with his father on Cedar Lake in Millinocket, Maine. In his earlier years, Robert enjoyed flying small engine planes out of the local airport. In his later years, he became a tour guide for family and friends to all of the Florida theme parks, thoroughly enjoyed by all. At the age of 16, Robert began to work for the Great Northern Paper Company in East Millinocket, Maine. His education and training opportunities allowed him to work as a master electrician, plumber and millwright. Next Robert became the chip plant supervisor in Portage Lake and then Superintendent of Operations in Aroostook District. He finished his career as Supervisor of the Yard crew and machine shop at the Millinocket Mill. Robert utilized his skills to consistently work two and three jobs to provide for his family. Roberts love, integrity and hard work extended from his family to the community. He belonged to the East Millinocket Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed being and organist at the Catholic and Baptist churches in East Millinocket, Maine; he brought a smile to faces of many parishioners especially with his ‘style’ of music. He was also an organist at the Faustina church in Davenport, Florida of which he and his wife were founding members. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Divine Mercy Catholic Church in East Millinocket, ME.
