Mary (Mollie) Seibert Ziegler

On January 4, 2025 Mollie Seibert Ziegler passed away in Gainesville, Florida with her husband Gene by her side. She was much loved and will be sorely missed by friends and family. Mollie is survived by husband Eugene Ziegler, bother James Seibert (Isabelle), daughter Anne Banks (Scott), son William Ziegler, daughter Susan Ziegler (Glenn Piercey), niece Kimberly Walburn, nephew Joseph Munroe, cousin Laura Brown Cragon, granddaughters Kelsea Ziegler, Katie Ziegler, Jennifer Banks, and grandsons Mathew Banks, Noah Piercey, and Aaron Piercey. She is predeceased by parents Charles Borum Seibert and Helen Markley Seibert, sister Elizabeth Seibert, and sister in-law Elizabeth Ziegler. Her love of mathematics was always incorporated into her daily life playing with numbers and teaching it to others. She tutored mathematics while attending West Virginia University where she completed a Bachelor of Mathematics and a Masters of Library Science. She worked as a Technical Librarian for General Electric first in Cincinnati, Ohio and then in Waterford, New York. She met her husband, Gene, in 1961 while attending Methodist Church of Schenectady. They lived in Schenectady, NY, Glen Ellen, IL, Lynnfield and Reading, MA before retiring to Hedgesville, WV and later Gainesville, FL. Like a well-loved quilt of many patterns Mollie wove a life supporting the fabric of her family and community. Supporter of women, she was a lifetime girl scout, troop leader, “cookie” mother for region, and Camp Rice Moody Board member, treasurer for Alpha Phi Fraternity at Tufts University, and was an active member of the College Club, the Junior Woman’s Club, and League of Women Voters’ (as Finance Chairman and Treasurer). Mollie was an active participant and supporter of local government through her service on the finance committee (as Chairman) and as a Selectman for the Town of Reading, MA. This included her role as Vice-Chairman of the Selectman 1987-1990. Applying her love of mathematics, she volunteered for AARP most years helping folks do their taxes in Reading as well as in Martinsburg and Berkley Springs, WV. She did research for the Berkley County Historical Society including archiving all the cemeteries in the region. Mollie was also an active member of the Congregational Church of Reading, MA serving on the Women’s Fellowship Circle, and member of the Hedges Chapel in Hedgesville, WV contributing to community events and fund raising. Mollie was a researcher and put tremendous efforts into genealogy both for her own extended family and others she encountered while researching. She was an accomplished seamstress having sewed beautiful clothing, made many lovely quilts, and knitted stockings, afghans, and sweaters for herself and those she loved. A sharp woman, with persistence, Mollie could get things done. Channelling her value for traditions and her church and broader community, she touched many and provided much across the communities where she lived and volunteered. Born and raised in West Virginia she carried a pride of place with her. Though she roamed far from West Virginia it was not possible to take the West Virginia out of her, and thus it is where she will rest. Always a Mountaineer.
