Carol Huber

Carol Huber died peacefully on August 24, 2014, at the E.T. York Hospice Care Center after a brief illness. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 28, 1936 to Alfred and Helen Mitchell Krausman and was educated in Detroit’s Catholic Schools, including Marygrove College..She returned to college and completed the requirements for a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Illinois – Springfield in 1973.Carol was a bright, enthusiastic, caring and committed person whose family was uniquely blessed and greatly privileged to have her in their lives. She was married in January of 1957 to James Huber and he survives her. An avid gardener, talented chef and impeccable housekeeper. Carol was the mother of 5 children: Susan of Park Ridge, IL; Thomas of Gainesville; Ronald of Charlottesville, VA; Roger of Bangor, ME and Amanda of Clifton Park, NY and the grandmother of 13: Thomas, William and Caroline Ferguson (Susan and David); Matthew, Abigail, John and Tommy (Thomas and Kate); James and Mitchell (Ronald and Wendy); Rachel and Elizabeth (Roger and Karen) ; Samuel and Henry (Amanda and Mike). She is also survived by 2 brothers, James and Michael, residents of Michigan. Carol and Jim moved to Gainesville in 2005 and quickly became involved in Queen of Peace parish and the Haile Plantation Golf and Country Club. Carol was generous with her time and talent, volunteering at Alz Place and the elementary school “Reading Buddies” program. A life-long Catholic, she was a staunch defender of her Church and her faith. Carol was a dedicated and inter-denominational Mah Jong player, a participant in both Catholic and Jewish groups. While she often lost money, she never lost her enthusiasm. She loved golf, a game which never returned her affection. Undaunted, she continued to pursue the game with remarkable - though unrewarded - persistence and tenacity. Carol was a skilled handworker, winning regional awards for her hand weaving and dressmaking skills. Carol was the consummate manager of all family affairs, the center and heartbeat of her family. Her greatest pride was mothering her children and grandchildren. Her passing leaves an enormous void in our lives. Arrangements are under the care of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME WESTAREA, 823 NW 143rd Street. The family requests that donations be made to Haven Hospice in lieu of flowers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church at 3:30 PM, preceded by the Rosaryand with a reception following the Mass.
