  • Cancer Support and Wellness Series
    Monday, January 08, 2018 to Monday, December 10, 2018

    Second Monday of each month, starting January 2018, 10:00 a.m. to noon.
    Free class series.

    Fun and educational classes will be offered to cancer patients, family members of the community to promote health and quality of life. Classes are free, but seating is limited. Snacks and refreshments will be provided on a first-come-first-served basis.

    Class topics for 2018 will include:
    Palliative Care: January 8
    Dance and Movement Therapy: February 12
    Breathing for Health: March 12
    Mindful and Gentle Yoga: April 9
    Harnessing Your Inner Energy: May 14
    Nutrition: June 11
    Enhancing Sleep: July 9

    Meditation and Relaxation Practices: November 5

    A voluntary questionnaire will be given at the end of all classes to evaluate the effectiveness of this series.

    Parking: Wilmot Gardens visitors can park in the small, handicap-accessible parking lot next to the conference center. Additional parking is available in the West Garage, located at the northwest corner of Archer Road and Center Drive, across from the Dental Tower. Parking vouchers will be provided.

    The Florida Department of Elder Affairs offers counseling that is unbiased, confidential and no cost, by trained SHINE Volunteer counselors. Come for individual sessions designed to help those eligible for Medicare understand their choices and options. Please bring with you: Medicare Card and Social Security Card; A printout of medications from pharmacy or bottles; Proof of annual household income to determine whether you qualify for extra help; MUST HAVE driver's license or photo I.D.; Any letters from Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid which you may have received.     CHURCHES IN THE NORTH-END OF MARION COUNTY AREA ARE SPONSORING A COMMUNITY FUN DAY ON JULY 21, 2018 FROM 11 am-p.m. AT ORANGE LAKE BALL PARK 5920 NW 185 STREET, REDDICK FLORIDA 32686.

    THE Fun Day EVENT IS OPEN TO FAMILIES, FRIENDS, CHILDREN, AND EVERYONE IN THE LOCAL COMMUNITY TO COME OUT AND ENJOY FREE FOOD, MUSIC, GAMES, HORSE AND PONY RIDES, AND ACTIVITIES that include A BOUNCE HOUSE WITH SLIDE FOR THE CHILDREN, FACE PAINTING, KARATE FOR CHRIST AND DOOR PRIZES.

    THERE WILL ALSO BE A MOBILE HEALTH UNIT (Health Department) ON SITE, MARION COUNTY WIC (Nutritional Counseling and Supplemental foods for pregnant, post partum, and breastfeeding women, infants, and children up to 5 years old); United Way of Marion County, Marion County Public Library, EARLY LEARNING COALITION AND MANY OTHER LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS TO PROVIDE INFORMATION TO ANYONE WHO MAY BE IN NEED OF SOCIAL SERVICES. Marion County Fire Station #9 will have their fire truck on site for tour.
