  • Cancer Support and Wellness Series
    Monday, January 08, 2018 to Monday, December 10, 2018

    Second Monday of each month, starting January 2018, 10:00 a.m. to noon.
    Free class series.

    Fun and educational classes will be offered to cancer patients, family members of the community to promote health and quality of life. Classes are free, but seating is limited. Snacks and refreshments will be provided on a first-come-first-served basis.

    Class topics for 2018 will include:
    Palliative Care: January 8
    Dance and Movement Therapy: February 12
    Breathing for Health: March 12
    Mindful and Gentle Yoga: April 9
    Harnessing Your Inner Energy: May 14
    Nutrition: June 11
    Enhancing Sleep: July 9

    Meditation and Relaxation Practices: November 5

    A voluntary questionnaire will be given at the end of all classes to evaluate the effectiveness of this series.

    Parking: Wilmot Gardens visitors can park in the small, handicap-accessible parking lot next to the conference center. Additional parking is available in the West Garage, located at the northwest corner of Archer Road and Center Drive, across from the Dental Tower. Parking vouchers will be provided.

    The UF Medical Guild is now accepting grant applications to fund health-related projects from non-profit organizations. We have $50,000 available with a maximum of $8,000 per grant. The average grant last year was $3,000.



    If your grant relates to healthcare, benefits people in Gainesville/Alachua County, and can be completed in one year, email ufmedguild@gmail.com to request an application. The application deadline is June 30, 2018.

    MakerSpace: Coding Art with Scratch

    SHINE Counseling

    The Florida Department of Elder Affairs offers counseling that is unbiased, confidential and no cost, by trained SHINE Volunteer counselors. Join for individual sessions designed to help those eligible for Medicare understand their choices and options. The discussion will consist of definitions, costs, options and all questions answered. Please bring with you: Medicare Card and Social Security Card; A print-out of medications from pharmacy or bottles; Proof of annual household income to determine whether you qualify for extra help; MUST HAVE driver’s license or photo I.D.; Any letters from Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid which you may have received.
